The unexpected death of Elmer Wilson on Wednesday afternoon, June 2, 1971, shocked his many friends and business associates in the area. No one realized he had been ill or even on the sick list. He became ill suddenly, Tuesday evening, June 1, 1971, and passed away the next afternoon at the age of 63 years.. Elmer Julian Wilson was born in Hazel Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on February 4, 1908, to parents Clarence E. and Alma (Hyne) Wilson. He was baptized into the Christian faith by Rev. J.J. Salhus and confirmed by Rev. A. Haugland. He was a lifelong member of Bergen Lutheran Church. He attended rural school and later graduated from the Minnesota School of Agriculture, St. Paul, Minnesota. He was engaged in farming for many years and still operated some land although he had rented out his own farm east of Clarkfield the past twelve years. He carried on the insurance business which had been in his family for 75 years, just retiring the end of 1970 from this work. Elmer has served on the Hazel Run Produce Board for many years, advancing to vice president in 1956 and to the presidency in 1963, a position he currently held. On June 30, 1937, he was united in marriage to Hazel Lien of Clarkfield. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife, Hazel; sisters: Edna (Mrs. John Weckworth), Arlene (Mrs. Frederick Torgerson), Clarice (Mrs. Arthur Koepke) and Ruby Wilson, all of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and one foster brother, Reuben Fadness, also of the area; along with many other relatives and friends.
