Elmer K. Sandvig, son of Knute and Laura (Huseth) Sandvig, was born June 24, 1897, on a farm at Lake Johanna near Brooten, Pope County, Minnesota. He was baptized by Rev. Balto at the Gilchrist Church and confirmed before Rev. Sund at Lake Johanna Church. On August 21, 1921, he was united in marriage to Ellen Skogen of Brooten by Rev. A.H. Hayme. The young couple farmed two years at Brooten and then moved to a farm in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. This union was blessed with one son, Elmo J., who with his wife, the former Marlene Jurgenson, and two children, Leslee and Kris, reside in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Mrs. Sandvig passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on January 12, 1953. Elmer operated the farm until two years ago. Since then he has been working with the Mork - Handeland - Lukken beet growers and also worked on the REA line crews. He worked as usual through Saturday. Elmer died at his farm home on May 24, 1966, at the age of 68 years. Beside his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Alice Rooney, Lydia Goldsmith and Ida Westermoe, and one brother, John Sandvig. Along with his son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, he is survived by one sister, Louise Rooney of Belgrade, Minnesota, and a number of nieces and nephews. IN MEMORY OF ELMER K.
