Elmer Howard Risa was born September 10, 1916, on a farm south of Hazel Run, to parents Michael and Anna (Hoversten) Risa. He graduated from the rural school, was baptized and confirmed in the Hazel Run Lutheran Church of which he was a lifetime member. On February 3, 1964, he was united in marriage to Effie Jorgenson Johnson. Due to ill health they sold the farm and moved to Hazel Run where they have since resided. Elmer passed away on July 9, 1977, at Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 60 years. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Effie; two step children: Edward Johnson of Fargo, North Dakota, and Helen Sjolie of Hutchinson, Minnesota; five grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Olaf of Hazel Run, Arlen of Clarkfield, Amy Bellamy and Thelma Risa of Wheaton, Illinois, Mildred Sandstrom of Ely, Minnesota, Helen Batdorf of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Ethel Russell of Brookfield, Wisconsin; 17 nieces and nephews; as well as friends and other relatives.
