IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elmer Maurice
Heggerston
October 22, 1896 – March 20, 1991
Elmer Maurice Heggerston was born October 22, 1896, on a farm in rural Walnut Grove, Minnesota, to parents Engebret E. and Mary (Ellefson) Heggerston. He was baptized at St. Olaf Lutheran Church near Walnut Grove on November 22, 1896, by the Rev. Hans Magelsson. Maurice grew up on the family farm and completed the 8th grade in the local township school. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1911 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. On April 3, 1922, Maurice and Hilma (Nelson) Heggerston of Minneota, Minnesota, were married. They farmed the home farm a few years and in 1936 they moved to rural Tracy, Minnesota, where they became members of the Hoiland Lutheran Church. Maurice and Hilma sold their Tracy farm and in 1956 moved to Madison, Minnesota, where Maurice was janitor at the Lutheran Home and Hilma was a cook. In 1960 Maurice purchased a home in Boyd, Minnesota, and worked on several farms in the area and also worked for an iron salvage firm. Work was Maurices' life and even after retirement he was always available to mow some lawns and help out his neighbors. Maurice and Hilma were home bodies, never traveling very far. Their longest trip was perhaps a trip to the Black Hills to see the Rushmore heads and up through North Dakota into Canada. After Hilma became confined to a wheel chair, Maurice dedicated himself to caring for her needs. Two years ago they left their home in Boyd and took up residence in the Golf View Apartments of Dawson, Minnesota, where they lived at the time of his death. Maurice passed away at the Johnson Memorial Hospital of Dawson on Wednesday, March 20, 1991, at the age of 94 years and 5 months. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Hilma of Dawson; one brother, Harry of Walnut Grove; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Mabel Kopperud; three brothers, Edwin, Adner and Ingolf (Bing).
