Elmer Henry Haugland was born March 12, 1899, at Red Wing, Minnesota, to parents, Rev. Anders Haugland and Susie Johnson Haugland. He graduated from the High School at Clark, South Dakota in 1919. He moved with his parents to Hazel Run in 1922, after whch he was employed as a clerk at the Famers' Store for several years. Prior to serving in the armed forces, he had been appointed as postmaster in Hazel Run, which position he resumed upon being discharged from the Army. This position he held until his retirement in 1969. On May 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Florence Johnson. Elmer was active in church and community affairs. His health had been failing the last few years and he passed away at the Deaconess Hospital, Minneapolis, on Ash Wednesday, February 16, 1972, after being admitted the previous day. He is survived by one step-daughter, Mrs. Jim Hanson, Jr. of Granite Falls, Minnesota; one step- son, Merold Johnson of Cokato, Minnesota; four grandchildren; one brother, Sigurd Haugland of Granite Falls; and five sisters: Anna (Mrs. Olaf Loe) of Maynard, Minnesota, Evelyn (Mrs. Howard Sharkey) of Rapid City, South Dakota, Isabelle (Mrs. George Flynn) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Viola (Mrs. Woodrow Wilson) of Denver, Colorado, and Amy (Mrs. Earl Jorgenson) of Ellensburg, Washington; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents; and two brothers, Oswald and Harold. IN MEMORY OF ELMER H.
