Elmer G. Anderson was born on December 15, 1914, in Normania Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Martin and Charlotte (Albin) Anderson. He was baptized at the Hauge Lutheran Church, west of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, and confirmed at the church in Hazel Run, Minnesota. Elmer married Anna Anderson on December 15, 1939, at the parsonage in Hazel Run. To this union four sons were born: Allen, Robert, Donald, and Douglas. Elmer was in the CCs and drove a tour bus in the 1930s. In the early 1940's he worked as a mechanic at the Ford garage in Pine City, Minnesota. The family returned to rural Hanley Falls, Minnesota, to farm after his brother Melford went in the service. In the 1960s he was employed as a bartender. Elmer also was a custodian at the Cottonwood and Hanley Falls schools. He was a member of the Hanley Falls School Board and the Normania Township Board. Elmer always enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. His old car was a familiar sight parked on Highway 23 by the river. He enjoyed keeping his sisters supplied with fresh fish. Elmer and Anna were residents at the Granite Manor, Granite Falls, Minnesota. He passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at the age of 91 years, 3 months, and 13 days. He is survived by his wife Anna, a resident at the Granite Manor, his four sons: Allen (and Dee) of Hanley Falls, Robert (and Sharon) of Hammond, Indiana, Donald (and LoyAnn) of Delano, Minnesota, and Douglas (and Barb) of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Lori (Tim) Clarine, Lee (friend Jamie) Anderson, Kim Anderson, Paula (Paul) Schumacher, Teri (Kevin) Miller, Christine (Justin) Cowdrey, Naomi (Nick) Nolan, Eric Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Tara (friend Jeff) Anderson, and Adam Anderson; 11 great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Elda Anderson of Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, brother Melford and sisters: Esther Hardel, Marion Sheveland, Helen Gilbertson, Julia Toner and Irma Maxner. Elmer will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends at the Manor.
