Elmer Ellisens Aakvik, son of Bonsak and Maren (Mathison) Aakvik, was born August 23, 1889, in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized September 8, 1889, at Fridhem Lutheran Church of Tyro Township by Rev. B.F. Bengtson and confirmed August 30, 1903, at Clarkfield Lutheran Church by Rev. O.C. Farseth, and has been a member ever since. On February 24, 1921, he was united in marriage to Martha Sofia Hatlen of Clarkfield by Rev. O.T. Storaasli. To this union were born two daughters, Marie Bertina, who only lived one week, and Dorothy, now Mrs. Anton Brusven of this area. Most of his life was spent on the farm in Tyro Township with the exception of 11 years when he operated an oil station in Clarkfield. He then returned to the farm for three years before he retired. He had been in ill health the past two years following a stroke. Following another stroke on December 7, 1963, he was taken to the Clarkfield Community Hospital where he passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 1964, having reached the age of 74 years. He is survived by his wife, his daughter and son-in-law, four grandsons, three nieces and four nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, one daughter and one brother.
