Elizabeth F. (Simons) Haugen was born on August 30, 1911, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to parents Carl John Oscar Simons and Elsie Louise (Flink) Simons. She was baptized and confirmed in the Minneapolis area and attended school there, graduating from Washburn High School. Following graduation, she worked for Daytons in the Magazine Department and then with the Telephone Company, a job she held until she moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. Elizabeth met Kermit A. Haugen in Montevideo, Minnesota, while he was in uniform and waiting to be shipped out during World War II. Kermit and Liz kept corresponding while he was in the service. They were married at Trinity Methodist Church in Minneapolis in 1946. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Clarkfield-Hazel Run area. Liz loved gardening and baking. She was an excellent seamstress. Kermit passed away in March of 1980 and Liz continued to live on the farm until she became a resident at the Clarkfield Care Center in January of 1998. She passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center on Friday, July 6, 2001, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 6 days. She is survived by two sisters: Sarah Heryla of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, and Evangeline Haskell of San Diego, California; and brother, Mike Simons of Mora, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kermit, sisters: Jane Behning, and Evelyn Steffel; and brothers: Ted and John Simons. Blessed be her memory.
