Obituary

Elizabeth Hoiland Anderson was born at Tine, Norway, on June 22, 1876, to Tonnes and Elizabeth (Westly) Hoiland. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith as an infant. Her mother passed away when she was six years of age. She lived with relatives until the year 1888 when she came to America with a sister and brother to rejoin her father and an older brother. The latter two had come to Minnesota previously to make a home for the family on a farm in Normania Township. She was confirmed by Rev. Thostenson in Hanley Falls Lutheran Church on July 19, 1891. On November 22, 1894, she was united in marriage to Oscar T. Anderson. They farmed in Normania until 1908 when they began to operate the county poor farm of Yellow Medicine County. In 1912, the family moved to Clarkfield where Mr. Anderson was in the general merchandise business. Mrs. Anderson was in failing health for the past five years. She suffered a stroke on September 6, 1957, and passed away at her home in Clarkfield on September 7, 1957, at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 15 days. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband; four children: an infant daughter, another daughter, Agnes, and two sons: Thorval and Emery; two brothers: Thomas and Gabriel Hoiland; two grandchildren: Rhoda Iverson and Ralph Lynne. Surviving are seven children: Thorfin, Mrs. Arden Lynne, and Alton of Clarkfield, Mrs. Oscar Iverson of Willmar, Minnesota, Gilford of Glenwood, Minnesota, Ralph and Agnes of Minneapolis. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Inga Hoiland of Seattle, Washington; fifteen grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church for almost 34 years. She had a sincere and personal faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. Blessed be her memory. IN MEMORY OF MRS. O. T.
