Elise Husby, of Clarkfield, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 102. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Rev. Deborah Nissen will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Elise Gudrun (Westre) Husby was born March 31, 1915, in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Lars and Cecilia (Lund) Westre. She was baptized May 2, 1915, and confirmed May 4, 1930, at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Elise graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1933. She was united in marriage with Orville Husby June 7, 1945, at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm in Tyro Township and were blessed with three children: Wesley, Craig, and Dagne. Elise worked as a telephone operator, a bookkeeper at Great Plains Lumber Yard, and later worked nights at the Clarkfield Care Center. Orville died November 3, 1960. Elise moved into Clarkfield and later to the Care Center in 2004. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and church choir as well as the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and making kringla and lefse. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Wes (Sharon) Husby of Clarkfield; son-in-law, Arnie Smiens of Montevideo; five grandchildren: Chad (Kristi) Husby, Kim (Joe) Flattum, Shelly (Todd) Larson, Jeremy (Sarah) Smiens, and Carrie (Brent) Van Binsbergen; sixteen great-grandchildren: Cody, Kelly, Colton and Chelsie Husby, Tyler (Mariah) Flattum, Justine Flattum, Jacob, Charles and Matthew Larson, Kaitlyn (John) O'Connor, Brett (Emily Lengquist) Anspach, Erin, Braden, Brett and Gwyn Smiens, and Madison Van Binsbergen; three great-great-grandchildren: Jaxon Anspach, Brantley O'Connor, and Cannon Flattum; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orville; a son, Craig; and daughter, Dagne Smiens; granddaughter, Michelle Anspach; four brothers: Oscar, Eugene, Lloyd, and Walter Westre; and two sisters: Charlotte Westre and Gladys Jurgenson.
