(Morland) Hovdesven
November 19, 1915 – January 13, 1993
Floyd Jubert Hovdesven was born on November 19, 1915, in Vallers Township to Albert and Amanda (Kise) Hovdesven. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He attended rural school and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1934. Eleanor Irene Morland Hovdesven was born on June 23, 1917, in Friendship Township to Nels and Lena (Blaness) Morland. She was baptized and confirmed in Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1935. She worked as a secretary at the County Agent's office in Clarkfield for several years. On October 10, 1943, Floyd and Eleanor were married at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. The couple farmed Floyd's family homestead in Lyon County, until they retired in 1978, and moved to Cottonwood. The church and community played an important part in Floyd's life. He served as Township Treasurer, school board member, and St. Lucas deacon, treasurer, choir member, and Sunday School Superintendent. He also was active with the Lion's Club, Cottonwood Senior Citizens, and the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, playing cards, and crossword puzzles. Eleanor was also very active in her church and community. She held offices in the W.E.L.C.A., sang with the church choir, and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Sunshine Club, the 5 & 9ers Homemaker's Club, and various card clubs. She served on the Board of Directors for H.U.D., and the Board of Directors for Senior Dining. Eleanor was also very active with the Cottonwood Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included sewing, needlework, baking, and gardening. Floyd and Eleanor died together on January 13, 1993, in a tragic car accident. Survivors include their sons, Wayne and wife Joyce of Petaluma, California, Wesley and wife Colette of Sacramento, California, John and wife Denise of Arlington, Washington, and daughter, Janet and husband Tom Kelley of Hudson, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Kristen, Erik, Sarah, Jessica, Christopher, Keith Hovdesven, Benjamin and Jillaine Kelley; and one great grandchild Jared Hovdesven. Floyd is also survived by three sisters, Almira Miller, Josie Haaland, and Inez Kompelien. He was preceded in death by his parents. Eleanor is also survived by two brothers, Arden and Harry Morland, and two sisters, Norma Frank and Delores Sievers. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Gladys Frank. Blessed be their memory. They will be greatly missed.
