Eldrid M. Nelson was born June 9, 1928, near Clarkfield, Minnesota, to William and Randi (Berg) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Church in Clarkfield. He graduated from Clarkfield High School. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent for the past twenty-five years. Four children were born into his marriage with Yvonne Jacobson: Randee Kay Lee of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bradley Jon Nelson of St. Paul, Minnesota; Kevin Lee Nelson of Waterloo, Iowa; and Pamela Jean Howard of Duluth, Minnesota. On May 28, 1977, he married Greta Leyse and shared in the relationship with her three children: Paula Jean Soine of Granite Falls, Minnesota; Richard Mark Leyse of Great Falls, Montana; and Jennifer Ann Leyse of Bloomington, Minnesota. He had five grandchildren: Marija Lee, Katie Nelson, Kim Nelson, Heather Leyse, and Eric Soine. He had four brothers: Leroy Nelson of Willmar, Minnesota, Robert Nelson of Mendecino, California, Arvid Nelson of Trenton, Illinois, and Leonard Nelson who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his father, William Nelson. He was a member of the Granite Falls United Church of Christ and had been a member of the Granite Falls Fire Department, the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, the Rodeo Association and the Granite Falls Country Club. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, bowling and football. He loved to tell jokes and enjoyed traveling and gardening. He died October 3, 1984, leaving behind many happy memories.
