Eileen Smith was born February 22, 1918, in Friendship Township, rural Clarkfield, Minnesota, to Harry and Beatrice (York) Smith. She was baptized September 4, 1924, and confirmed February 23, 1947, at Spring Creek Lutheran Church. She attended Clarkfield Public Schools and graduated in 1936. Eileen married Ariel Jacobson on September 4, 1942. Ariel died in a farm accident September 1, 1945. On September 7, 1948 Eileen married Carl Stensrud in Clarkfield. They farmed south of Clarkfield and moved to town in 1963. Eileen worked as a cook for the Clarkfield Hospital and Care Center until 1988. Eileen was interested in crocheting and embroidering. Her skill in baking cookies, making donuts and salads for special events, was well known. Eileen was an active member in her ladies aid and Clarkfield Hospital and Care Center Auxiliary groups. Eileen died Wednesday, August 28, 1991 at the Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall, Minnesota at the age of 73. Survivors are her husband, Carl; daughter, Marilyn (Mrs James) Kompelien of Minneota, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Jackie Esping and her husband David of Taunton, Minnesota, Stanley Kompelien and his wife Dee Dee of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Jill Boehne and her husband Scott of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and Jody Kompelien of Minneota, Minnesota; two great grandchildren, Courtney and Derek Esping; three sisters, Florence (Mrs. Marvin) Bruns of Minneota, Minnesota, Eldora (Mrs. Jim) Walker of Leesburg, Florida, and Bea (Mrs. George) Silver of Shoreview, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Ariel; infant son, Maurice; sister, Pansy (Mrs. LeRoy Elliott); and brothers J. Wm. (Bill) and Harold Smith.
