IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Effie Almeida
(Doane) Swennes
June 16, 1870 – June 21, 2016
Effie Almeida Doane was born in Canton, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, June 16, 1870. Her parents were Orlando Anthony Doane and Sarah Jane Jones. She was one of ten children. When seventeen she came to Minnesota where she taught school in the Canby community. In 1892 she was married to Arne Swennes of Minneota, Minnesota, where they lived on a farm. Five sons were born to this union, namely, Sidney, Olaf, Harold, Arne and Lee. Later they moved to Clarkfield and farmed until the time of her husband's death in 1930. Also preceding her in death were her two sons, Sidney of Kalispell, Montana, and Arne of Clarkfield. Since 1930 she has made her home with her sons and families. She was a faithful member of the Clarkfield Methodist Church for many years. She was a kind and devoted mother, always willing to do what she could for others. She spent most of her time reading and writing letters and doing beautiful handiwork which she so generously gave away with the remark that "it is a pleasure to labor for those we love." It was always a source of great joy when old friends and loved ones would come to visit with her. In January this year her son, Harold and wife, came to Hanley Falls to visit and she returned home with them to spend the winter. She was in good health until April 15th when she suffered a coronary thrombosis which kept her bedridden for eight weeks, after which time she seemed to recover enough to be up and dressed and able to be downstairs. On June 15th she suffered another attack and was taken to the Mora Hospital on her 86th birthday, where everything possible was done to relieve her suffering. God saw fit to call her to her heavenly home to be at rest June 21st. She leaves to mourn her death three sons and their wives and two daughters-in-law, namely, Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Swennes of Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Swennes of Hinckley, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Swennes of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, Mrs. Amanda Swennes Tollefson of Kalispell, Montana, and Mrs. Cora Swennes Beck of Montevideo, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law; one brother- in-law; besides a host of friends. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Blessed be her memory among us. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
