IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edwin George
Wollmuth
April 1, 1921
Edwin George Wollmuth was born April 1, 1921, in Springfield, Minnesota, to parents William August and Helen Margaret (Mellendorf) Wollmuth, one of eight children. He was baptized in Cloverdale, Iowa, September 2, 1921. Ed was confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church, Brandt, South Dakota, May 26, 1935. He attended country school near Brandt. When he was an infant they moved to Cloverdale, Iowa, where the family farmed. In 1924 the family moved to Brandt. His mother and his oldest brother, Walt, traveled by train with all their cattle. His dad and the rest of the family traveled in the Overland car. It was so cold they almost froze. (The car had side curtains but no heater.) Ed met Arlene Bleeker while they were both herding cattle. They were married May 5, 1945, at Madison, Minnesota. To this union two children were born, Brenda and Dean. The family lived on a farm near Castlewood, South Dakota, where they farmed and had milk cows. In 1956 they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. Ed began working for the Clarkfield School District in 1957 as Bus Superintendent and Athletic Field Grounds Keeper. His buses and the drivers were very important to him. He spent many hours grooming the baseball field and keeping the football field in immaculate condition. He retired from the school in 1987, after 30 years of service. Cars, trucks, trailers and fish houses were his passion. He was "never" content to have the same one for very long. (Having three fish houses at one time was not unusual.) Although we teased "Dad" about his "wheeling and dealing" with cars, he always had words of wisdom for us all, sometimes we took it and sometimes we didn't! Ed was a faithful member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, doing word puzzles, reading the Bible and the Minnesota Twins. His greatest joy was the grandchildren and all the precious great grandchildren. In 1999 Arlene passed away. He was a wonderful caregiver to her for many months during her long illness. This left a void in his life. With God's guidance, he met Shirley Saue. Shirley and Ed were married at the Methodist Church in Clarkfield, July 9, 2001. The last four years were filled with happiness and a loving marriage. Ed is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Brenda and husband LeRoy Ohlson, Clarkfield; son Dean and wife Nancy, Lake Elmo, Minnesota; grandchildren Taunja and husband Brad Kelvington, Danube, Minnesota, Stacy and husband David Hinz, Granite Falls, Minnesota, Aaron Ohlson and fiance Cindy Stumpf, Clarkfield, and Lisa Wollmuth, Oakdale, Minnesota; six great grandchildren: Courtney, Jordan and Madison Hinz, Luke and Haley Kelvington and Kayden Dock; three step-grandsons: Mark and wife Jennifer Peterson, Stillwater, Minnesota, Rick Peterson, Savage, Minnesota, and Craig Peterson, Lake Elmo, Minnesota; two step-great grandsons, Andrew and Thomas Peterson; sisters Augusta Zischke, Clear Lake, South Dakota, Mathilda Grinde, Sierra Visa, Arizona and Arlene Yoder, Stegor, Illinois; and brother Wm. of Grays Lake, Illinois. He is also survived by his extended family to Shirley: step-daughters Karen Thompson of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Gwen and husband Dennis Kvistad, Wood Lake, Minnesota, Nadine and husband Bruce Albertson, Clarkfield, Minnesota, Candy and husband Gordy Albertson, Clarkfield, Minnesota, Angie and husband Wayne Viessman, Gary, South Dakota; step-sons Greg and wife Jen McCoy, Appleton, Minnesota, Jason and wife Leah McCoy of Hutchinson, Minnesota; 17 step-grandchildren; and 15 step great great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother Walter; sisters Anna Wollmuth and Helen Lunde; granddaughter Alecia Wollmuth; and his wife, Arlene. Blessed be his memory.
