Edwin L. Gilbertson was born on September 24, 1905, near Boyd, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Ida (Dahl) Gilbertson. He was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Boyd, where he was a lifelong member. He attended rural school in District #72 near Boyd, Boyd High School, and later the University Farm School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ed spent his entire life farming in the Boyd area. In 1985, he and his sister, Mrs. Gertie Stevens, moved to Dawson, Minnesota, where he was residing at the time of his death. Ed had a hobby of doing woodworking and when on the farm, established a wood shop where he made a variety of wood products. During his lifetime, Ed served on a variety of boards, some of which were: Boyd Elevator Board, Lac qui Parle Conservation Board, District #90 School Board, and the Board of Trustees at Trinity. Ed was admitted to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson on July 26, 1990. Later he was transferred to Johnson Memorial Home and then to Rice Hospital in Willmar where he was diagnosed as having bone cancer. He passed away at the Ashwood Health Care Center in Willmar, Minnesota, on September 3, 1990, where he was a patient while taking daily radiation treatments at Rice Hospital. Ed would have been 85 years old on September 24, 1990. Ed is survived by one sister, Alma Eidem, of Montevideo, and several nieces and nephews.
