Edwin Oliver Afdem was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, the son of John E. and Belle (Brekke) Afdem on April 5, 1888. He passed away at the Clarkfield Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening, October 6, 1959, at the age of 71 years, six months and one day, after an illness of nearly four weeks. The deceased was baptized by Rev. Moen and confirmed by Rev. Farseth. He attended school at Clarkfield and later took business courses at Mankato and Minneapolis after which he returned to Clarkfield and assisted his father with the farm work. His father acquired land in Perkins County, South Dakota, so he went there to farm and met Amalia Braaten, whom he married. The young couple returned to Minnesota in 1918 and settled on the farm one mile east of Clarkfield owned by his father. His wife died in February, 1924, leaving three small children. His mother then took over and cared for the children, the youngest, Earl, being only one and a half years old. After selling his farm to the Leonard Eggens, he continued to live there in his modern trailer house. Left to mourn his passing are his three children: Irene (Mrs. Clarence Larson) of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Henry of Minneota, Minnesota, and Earl of Duluth, Minnesota, all of whom were with him during his illness; three sisters: Annie (Mrs. I.F. Fagerlie) of Clarkfield, Hilda (Mrs. C.D. Grinnells) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gladys (Mrs. Arnold Mikelson) of Minneapolis; two sisters-in-law: Hildred (Mrs. Marvin Afdem) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Clara (Mrs. Arnold Afdem) of Clarkfield; and the following grandchildren: Catharine, Barbara, Susan and David Afdem of Minneota, Kay Larson of Madison, Wisconsin, Diana, Margo and John Afdem of Tempe, Arizona; besides a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two brothers: Marvin, who passed away one year ago last January, and Arnold, who passed away last July. IN MEMORY OF EDWIN O.
