EDWARD HAROLD KROGER, 72, was born on November 11, 1909, to John and Mabel (Henry) Kroger in Moville, Iowa. He moved to Cottonwood, Minnesota, in 1913 where he remained for the rest of his life. Edward passed away October 29, 1982. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood in 1924. On September 1, 1933, he was united in marriage to Avis Markell of Green Valley, Minnesota. They were blessed with six sons. Edward spent his youth farming with his father and brothers. Subsequent to leaving the farm he became adept at many occupations which included carpentry, bricklaying and tiling. He worked at the Cottonwood Mink Farm for the next 16 years, leaving there to own and operate a cafe in Cottonwood. After selling the cafe Edward and Avis moved to a farm west of town where he spent the next 10 years doing what he loved the most - farming and raising livestock. In 1978 Edward retired and moved to town where he and Avis have served as custodians at the Christ Lutheran Church for the past 12 years. On September 28, 1982, Edward suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized at the Granite Falls Hospital for 3 weeks. After being at home for a week and a half, he suffered a fatal heart attack while visiting his old farm west of town. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a son, John Edward; a granddaughter, Darla Jean Kroger and four brothers, Earl, Johnny, Lloyd and Fred. He is survived by his loving wife, Avis; four sons, Philip James of rural Cottonwood, Ralph Francis of Pahoa, Hawaii, Richard Lee of Worland, Wyoming, and William Gary of Cottonwood; 19 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Melvern (Lillian) Iverson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
