(Reishus) Bestland
April 17, 1905 – April 2, 1997
Edna O. Bestland was born April 17, 1905, near Cottonwood, Minnesota to Sondre Theles and Tilla (Harris) Reishus. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. She graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1924, and completed Teacher's Training at St. Cloud State in St. Cloud, MN in 1925. She taught school in Gackle, North Dakota. On March 3, 1926, she and Roy Bestland were married at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church Parsonage in Hanley Falls, MN. They lived in Flint, Michigan and Maynard, MN and returned to the Hanley Falls area where they farmed until 1969. After retirement they resided in Hanley Falls and wintered many years in Florida. Edna lived at Henry Hill Apartments in Granite Falls for ten years, before moving to the Clara City Community Nursing Home in September, 1996. She was active in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and the Royal Neighbors of America; holding offices in both organizations, and the Hanley Falls Birthday Club. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, crafts and quilting. Edna passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 1997 at Clara City Community Nursing Home, Clara City, MN at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 17 days. Edna is survived by her son, Roy Bestland, and wife, Claudia of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; daughter, Jean Bjornebo, and husband, Arvid of Cottonwood, MN and daughter, Donna Stelter, and husband, Duane of Spicer, MN; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Sondre Reishus of Hanley Falls, MN and Harvey Reishus, and wife, Maxine, of New London, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy, in 1991; one brother, Alton Reishus; one sister, Octoria Hughes; half-sisters Wanda Erickson and Martha Reishus; and half-brother, Odin Reishus; grandson, Eric Bestland and great granddaughter, Bethany Bryan.
