Edna Kelm Oien (Grandma Oien) was born September 5, 1913 in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to parents William and Louise (Kammeyer) Kelm. She was baptized September 28, 1913 at Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township by Rev. B. Luttman. She was confirmed May 1, 1927 by Rev. E.H. Neuman, at Zion Lutheran Church. Edna attended school at District 29 of Tyro Township. Edna married Alfred Oien on November 22, 1929 at the parsonage in Boyd, MN by Rev. Lien. Two children were blessed to this union: Howard and Elizabeth. Edna lived in the Boyd area all her life. She was a school bus driver for the Boyd Public School for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the Boyd Senior Citizens. Edna passed away peacefully at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on Monday morning, June 17, 1996 at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 13 days. She is survived by her children: Howard (and Harriet) Oien of Brooklyn Center; and Elizabeth (and Orville) Oien Hagen of Montevideo. She is also survived by brother Elmer Kelm of Clarkfield, and sisters-in-law Frances Kelm of Boyd and Elowine Leibfried of Marshall, and grandchildren Timothy (and Yeonge Ae) Oien, Curtis (and Sandy) Oien, Jane (and Marty) Martin, Lori (and Mike) Neeb, Linda (and Daniel) Ringstad, James (and Nancy Imbretson) Hagen, and Scott (and Rosina) Hagen. She is also survived by great grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Christopher, Jason, Kaitlyn, and Tyler Oien, William Irish, Elizabeth and Melissa Neeb, Samuel and Kellie Ringstad, and Ashley and Alisha Hagen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred Oien, and brothers and sisters.
