Edgar Vernelle Willander was born in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on December 15, 1923, to parents Oscar and Emelia (Anderson) Willander. He was baptized January 9, 1924, at the First English Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, Minnesota, by Rev. Theo Steinert and confirmed May 16, 1937, by Rev. Carl Anderson. He attended Rural School District #29 and Clarkfield High School. Edgar enlisted in the US Navy on December 1, 1942, and served in the Submarine Service in the Aleutian Islands. He was discharged in February 1946 as an Electrician Mate 3rd Class. Following the service, he farmed and later worked at Regal Homes in Montevideo, Minnesota, until his retirement. He lived at home in Tyro Township. Edgar passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 23 days. He is survived by brothers: Eldon (and Ramona), William (and Patricia) and Irvin of rural Clarkfield; sister, Alicia Peterson of Canby, Minnesota; sister-in-law, June Willander of Boyd, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Delmer (and wife Esther), Wendell, and Howard; sisters: Ethel (and husband Eugene) Beck, and Norma (and husband George) Rosen; and niece, Nancy Albertson. Edgar was a kind and hard working man, he was a Good Samaritan to many. Blessed be his memory.
