Earl William Gebers was born in Adair, Iowa, February 19, 1909, of the parents Herman and Mary (Schlee) Gebers. With his parents he came to the Clarkfield community in 1912. He completed his school work in the Clarkfield schools with the class of 1929, graduating from the local high school. Deceased was baptized in Emanuel Lutheran Church at Adair, Iowa, attended parochial and Sunday school in the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, and was confirmed by Rev. O.M. Wee in 1924. He also became a member of that church according to its constitution. In September of this year Earl enrolled at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. Here he soon won general recognition for his outstanding athletic abilities, especially on the football field. He was also a good student. But his brilliant career came to an abrupt ending, for on the 30th of October he was taken sick with appendicitis and a week later submitted to an operation. On November 12th another operation was found necessary. Everything that human skill and love could devise were tried in an effort to save his life, but he passed away Wednesday morning November 13th at 9:30 o'clock, "peacefully, in the arms of Jesus" a the age of 20 years, 8 months and 22 days. He leaves to mourn his loss: his father and mother; one sister, Mrs. Gifford Maursetter of Clarkfield; three brothers: Arthur of Airdria, Alberta, Canada, LaVern and Kenneth who are staying at home.
