Earl Richard Berg was born September 30, 1940, at home in Tyro Township, Minnesota, to Arne and Edith (Larson) Berg. He was baptized November 3, 1940, and confirmed May 9, 1954, at Israel Lutheran Church in rural Clarkfield. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1958. He married Darlyne Breyfogle on August 15, 1960, at Boyd, Minnesota. Five children were born to this union: Natalie, Brenda, Richard, Timothy, and Scott. On September 2, 1976, Earl married Sonya Johnson Hubbard in Watertown, South Dakota. Son, Carl Jon, was born to this union. Earl farmed in Tyro Township his entire life. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his yearly trips to Canada and Montana. Earl enjoyed organizing the wild game feeds the last ten years. He enjoyed music and singing to his grandchildren. He was a member of the band, The Westenders, for 15 years. Children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren were very special to him. He became a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church where he enjoyed Bible study and was a Sunday School teacher. Earl died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 58. He is survived by his wife, Sonya; mother, Edith Berg of Clarkfield; six children: Natalie (Jim) Brown of Reno, Nevada, Brenda Willander (fiancee Perry Peterson) of Granite Falls, Richard (Cindy) Berg of Napoleon, Ohio, Timothy Berg of Clarkfield, Scott (Tammy) Berg of Clarkfield, and Carl Jon Berg of Clarkfield; two step-sons: Steven (Debra) Hubbard and Eric (Krista) Hubbard both of Clarkfield; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers: Arden (Violet) Berg and Dale (Marlene) Berg; a sister Phyllis (Oscar) Waller all of Clarkfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arne Berg, and his mother and father-in-law, Forest and Albertha Johnson.
