IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Durven Ernest
Hermanson
August 7, 1904 – June 30, 1968
Durven Ernest Hermanson was born on August 7, 1904, at Boyd, Minnesota, to Henry and Dorothea (Korstad) Hermanson at their home in Ten Mile Lake Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. He was baptized at an early age into the Lutheran faith and on May 25, 1919, he was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Boyd, Minnesota, by the Rev. E.C. Eid. On August 29, 1928, he was united in marriage to Minnie Refseth of Camp Release Lutheran Church by the Rev. G.S. Froiland. To this union three sons were born: Donald Marlyn of Boyd, who married Betty Saumers of Montevideo and has five children, Debra, Vicki, Craig, Douglas and Richard, Vernel Jerome, who married Janice Moen and has three children, Daryl, Michael and Daniel, and a third son, Roger Keith, Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan, who married Madalynn Rose Fjerkenstad and has a daughter, Kari Lynn. Mr. Hermanson was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd until he joined the Clarkfield Lutheran Church three years ago. While at Trinity Church, he served on the Board of Trustees and with the Brotherhood and other church activities. He was a member of local farm organizations and farmed for many years near Boyd. He entered partnership with Nels Berger in the John Deere Implement business in 1948 at Veblen, South Dakota, which worked out very well, but a brother of Mr. Berger was constantly wanting to buy Hermanson's interest, so in 1950 he reluctantly sold. He then operated a Ford garage in Boyd, but along with farming, this proved a bit too much. So in 1952, he returned to the one business of farming until 1955 when he purchased the Reishus John Deere dealership at Clarkfield which he operated until his death. He expanded the business and built the new location at the south approach to town. Mr. Hermanson served on the Clarkfield Village Council and was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Mr. Hermanson passed away Sunday, June 30, 1968, at St. Barnabas Hospital, Minneapolis, the result of injuries suffered in a truck-car accident on June 25, 1968, at the age of 63 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Minnie; three sons and their wives; nine grandchildren; his aged father, Henry N. Hermanson of Boyd; one sister, Jorgina (Mrs. Norman Anderson) of Seattle, Washington; four brothers: Helmer of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Melvin of Minneapolis, George of Washington, D.C., and Arthur of Boyd; nine nieces and nephews and hosts of relatives and friends.
