After an illness of four years, Duane McCoy of rural Clarkfield, Minnesota, passed away at his home in Lisbon Township of Yellow Medicine County, on Monday, December 25, 2000, at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 28 days. Duane was born on July 27, 1930, in Terrill, Iowa, to parents Orph and Era (Lown) McCoy. He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1941. Duane was baptized at the Methodist Church and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church of Stony Run Township. He graduated from Clarkfield High School and served his country in the United States Army from January of 1952 to December of 1953. On June 9, 1957, Duane and Dorothy Swang were united in marriage. They lived in Lisbon Township for 43 years, where Duane was engaged in dairy farming, and serving on various dairy organizations and boards. Duane was active in church activities, serving as treasurer of the Bergen Cemetery Board. He also served as Lisbon Township treasurer for 24 years. He was active in the American Legion for many years. He loved gardening and flowers, plus working on wood crafts and recreational reading. Duane is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of rural Clarkfield; daughter Kim Mead and son-in-law Ron Mead of Oak Hills, California; and son Kris of San Diego, California. He is also survived by step grandchildren JayDee and Tony Mascarre, and Ronnie and Shelly Mead, and seven great grandchildren all of Apple Valley, California. He is also survived by sisters: Coleen Olson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, Lucille Rose of Spencer, Iowa, Marie Cushman of Montevideo, Minnesota, Judy VanDorpe of Fargo, North Dakota; and brother Delbert McCoy of Storm Lake, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Leland, Kenny, and Dale. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support, and kindness during Duane's illness.
