Dorothy Lena Krause Anderson was born March 7, 1925, at Webster, South Dakota, to parents Christ and Martha (Burger) Krause. She was baptized and confirmed at the Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, South Dakota. Dorothy married Melvin S. Anderson on April 16, 1944, at Roslyn, South Dakota. They were the parents of three children: Duane, David, and Carol. They made their home in Clarkfield, Minnesota, for many years, where she operated "Dorothy's Cafe." Melvin passed away on August 29, 1970. In 1973, Dorothy moved from Clarkfield to Richfield, Minnesota, and began what was to become a lifetime partner relationship with friend, Vernon Olson. After retirement, Vernon and Dorothy lived at their lake home near Richmond, Minnesota. Dorothy had many hobbies and passions including cooking, fishing, sitting and talking or just looking at the lake. She always had time to listen and give advise to the many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that happened when Vernon's and Dorothy's families merged. A long term struggle with heart trouble, complicated by diabetes led to her passing away on Saturday, December 21, 2002, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, Minnesota, at the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 14 days. She is survived by her partner, Vernon Olson; sister Leola Hesla of Pierre, South Dakota; two sons: Duane (and Jane) of Elysian, Minnesota, and David (and Barb) of Spencer, Iowa; and daughter Carol Holen (and John Holbrook) of Tracy, Minnesota. Also surviving are Vernon's four sons and two daughters; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin; one sister; and one brother.
