IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Mae
(Bly) Rasmussen
September 24, 1933 – October 6, 2025
Dorothy Rasmussen, of Clarkfield, died on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 92.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the J.H. Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield with Rev. Matthew Danielson officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour before the service.
Dorothy Mae (Bly) Rasmussen was born September 24, 1933, in International Falls, MN to McThilman and Annie (Woltjer) Bly. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Int'l Falls in December 1933 and July 1949 respectively. Dorothy graduated from the Minnesota School for the Deaf in May 1953 and was honored to have been class Valedictorian. She was offered a full ride scholarship to Gallaudet College but decided on a different path and after graduation went to a local school to learn keypunch operations and worked for the MN Highway Department in St. Paul in the traffic and keypunch departments. Dorothy was united in marriage with D. Duane Rasmussen on June 5, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in International Falls from 1955-1970 where she worked as a cleaner at a local hotel. They moved to southern Minnesota in 1970 and ultimately ended up making their home in Clarkfield the summer of 1972. Dorothy worked for the Clarkfield Care Center many years off and on and joked recently that she started at the Care Center and now ended living at the Care Center. Dorothy's hobbies were reading and writing. In 2004 Duane and Dorothy celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary and Dorothy wanted to have a party to celebrate but Duane wanted to go fishing. Dorothy said, "If he goes fishing I will find somebody else to celebrate with" (ha ha). She was a jokester but more of a quick wit type.
She is survived by her three children; Debra Rasmussen and Elizabeth Braun of Clarkfield, Minnesota and Perry (Clarice) Rasmussen of New Ulm, Minnesota; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, James (Kristen) L'Heureux of Scottsdale, Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Duane; her parents; two sisters, Evelyn (Walter) Stachiw and Joyce (Donald) Bolstad; a grandson, Jared Braun; a great grandson, Josiah David Vetter; and son-in-law, Brent Braun.
