Dorthea (Korstad) Hermanson was born December 2, 1873, at Utvik, Nordfjord, Norway, the daughter of Daniel and Eli Korstad. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Gildeminden at Utvik Church in Nordfjord. In 1887 she was confirmed in the same church. She was one of eight children. Her father passed away when the youngest, Eline, was only nine months of age. In 1890 Andrew, Jorgen and Martha came to America and in 1894 her mother came with the rest of the family to Norcross, Minnesota, where Andrew had established his home. One year later, they moved to a farm south of Boyd, Minnesota, now occupied by the Arnold Walter family. While living here she was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church and sang in its choir. On February 12, 1902, she was united in marriage to Henry Hermanson of Boyd and they settled on the farm, the Hermanson homestead and lived there until about ten years ago when they moved to Boyd. To this union six children were born: Helmer of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Durven of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Melvin of Minneapolis, Jorgina of Aberdeen, Washington, George of Washington, D.C. and Arthur of Boyd. The last few years she had been in ill health and on Saturday, March 11, 1961, she passed away from pneumonia at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, six children, twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, besides her sisters: Martha Aasebestol of Norway, Christine Skaalen of Boyd, and Eline Korstad of Austin, Minnesota; and her brothers: Sivert of Devils Lake, North Dakota, and George of Minneapolis; and a host of relatives and friends.
