Doris Marie (Eggen) Fjerkenstad was born March 8, 1917 in Adair, Iowa to parents Albert and Minnie (Schlee) Eggen. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended Country School in Tyro Township. Doris married Joseph O. Fjerkenstad on January 11, 1939. This union was blessed with two children, Madalynn and David. Joe and Doris farmed for over 50 years in the Boyd area. Doris also ran an antique business from her home. She was well known for her antique business and enjoyed working with them. Doris was very active in her church. She belonged to WELCA and for many years she worked with the Sunday School, both as a teacher and as the Superintendent. Doris passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, November 23, 1996 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 16 days. She is survived by her husband, Joseph, and her children; Madalynn (and Roger) Hermanson of Clarkfield and David (and Lynette) Fjerkenstad of Boyd. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kari and Keith Hermanson and Nathan and Matthew Fjerkenstad. Also surviving are two brothers: Leonard Eggen of Clarkfield and Wayne Rogge of Boyd and sister Lucille Elmquist of Edina, MN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all.
