Donald Russell Willander of Minneapolis, Minnesota, formerly of Clarkfield, Minnesota, died November 14, 1987, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 1987, from the Assembly of God Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota, with Pastor Lloyd Jacobson and Pastor Jay Norman officiating. Organist was Mrs. Marvin Hildahl with vocal music by Mrs. Arnold Johnson. Casket Bearers were Arnold Johnson, Ray Schaikoski, Denton, Eloit and William Willander and Kenneth Yeider. Military rites were by the American Legion J. Ben Johnson Post 169, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Final Resting Place is the Clarkfield City Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was born in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on June 16, 1918, to Edwin and Clara (Johnson) Willander. He resided on the family farm until he entered the military service on February 14, 1944. He was made Platoon Sergeant in the 15th Infantry regiment. He was given battle stars for the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. After he was discharged from the Army on May 11, 1946, he went into the construction and roofing business. He continued in this business until a few yeas ago when his health failed. He is survived by his brothers Orin and Jesse of Clarkfield and Elsmore of Sherman, Texas; sisters Ruth of Clarkfield, Edith of Minneapolis and Jenette of Edmonds, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
