IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Raymond
Nelson
November 11, 1920 – October 7, 2011
Donald Raymond Nelson (November 11, 1920~October 7, 2011) The spirit and soul of Donald Raymond Nelson, age 90, were freed from this fragile life on Friday, October 7, 2011. Don held Clarkfield, Minnesota, as his home for most of his life. He stepped into eternal glory from his latest residence in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was living with his son, Chris, for the past two years. He was released from his frail body to receive an incorruptible one in the presence of God. Don was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, on November 11, 1920, the son of Adolph "Shorty" Nelson and Mabel (Cliffgard) Nelson. He spent his growing up years and most of his married years in Clarkfield. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Elkjer, on February 10, 1945, while he was still serving in the Army Air Corp. As WWII drew to a close, they returned to Clarkfield. Don's love for God and for his family was central to his life as he raised three children, teaching them a love for God and family. Don's legacy continues in the lives he and Marge have touched through their many prayers, continual encouragements and tangible support within their family and with many in the community. Don's love of the outdoors found expression in hunting, fishing and traveling. After retirement from the F&M State Bank in Clarkfield, he and Marge were free to extend their travels. Travels that allowed Marge to express her heart for God's creation in her paintings, that provided Don the opportunities for fishing in new places and together, provided them memories to last a lifetime. Their yard and gardens were a testimony of their passions. Throughout Don's life, his love and devotion for God provided a model for the whole family during times of peace and of crisis. Their home became a refuge and a haven of rest or at times just a place for a cup of coffee with their many friends. He will be deeply missed by his children, Gail Olson, Chris Nelson, Steve Nelson and their families which include 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; as well as his sisters Diana and Dora. Don is preceded in his journey by his parents, Adolph and Mabel Nelson; his wife, Marjorie; sister Abigail Wood; and two brothers: Merrill "Bud" Nelson and Lloyd Nelson. In Loving Memory of DONALD R.
