Dithloff J. Varpness was born on a farm near Cottonwood, Minnesota, on January 17, 1891, the son of John and Dena Varpness. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. On June 18, 1917, he was united in marriage to Amanda Selness. This union was blessed with five children, three of whom survive, namely, Delmar of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Alice (Mrs. LeRoy Johnson) of Boyd, Minnesota, and Jimmie, at home. Twin sons died in infancy. He passed away at his Clarkfield home Saturday, April 23, 1960, at the age of 69 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Amanda; his two sons and daughter; his son-in-law and daughter-in-law; four granddaughters and four grandsons; his twin brother, John, and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death besides his twin sons were his parents and three sisters, Cora, Emelia and Tina (Mrs. John Stensrud). IN MEMORY OF DITHLOFF J.
