Delmer Walton Willander was born to Oscar and Emelia (Anderson) Willander on January 2, 1922, in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized on January 22, that same year by Rev. Theo. Steinert. He was confirmed on July 19, 1936, at first English Lutheran Church by Rev. Carl E. Anderson. He enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1942 and served until January 1946. On March 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Esther Olson and they farmed in the local community until 1970. Then they made their home in Boyd, Minnesota. He was engaged in carpentry and was employed at Moduline in Montevideo, Minnesota, at the time of his death. He was an avid sportsman. Mr. Willander passed away suddenly at his home Thursday night, February 27, 1975, of an apparent heart attack at the age of 53. Survivors are his wife Esther; three stepchildren: Harold and Virgil of Oro Grande, California, and Donna (Mrs. Luverne Schewe) of Granite Falls, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters: Edgar, Irvin and William of Clarkfield, Eldon, Wendell and Norma (Mrs. Edwin Hiepler) of Boyd, Mrs. Ethel Beck of Montevideo, Alicia (Mrs. Wayne Peterson) of Canby, Minnesota; several nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.
