Della Marguerite (Burroughs) Just was born on September 6, 1920, the eighth child of David and Anna Mary Burroughs, in a log house in the hills near Dorchester, Iowa. Growing up she attended country school, spent time with her Dad chording on the piano while he played the fiddle, and worked on the farm. In 1940 she traveled to Dawson, Minnesota, to take nurse's training. After completion of training, she went back to Iowa to do some private home nursing, and later returned to Minnesota and worked in the Dawson and Clarkfield Hospitals. While taking training, she met Jerry Just. They were married on June 15th, 1946, in Bloomington, Illinois. They made their home on a farm southwest of Clarkfield, farming for 47 years together. They were blessed with two children, Gerald Randolph and Judy Ann. Della had many wonderful talents, which she enjoyed, including knitting sweaters (during the war) and doll clothes for her daughter, crocheting many doilies and a beautiful bedspread, and also spent many hours quilting. She also enjoyed assisting with 4-H projects, and serving as a leader. She was very active in church, where she served as an officer for the LWML, and served on other committees as well. She was a great cook and baker; fresh buns were enjoyed by many and lemon pie enjoyed by her daughter for her birthday. Della enjoyed flower gardening, gardening and working in the field. In her later years, Della worked part-time in the Activity Department at the Clarkfield Care Center. She did this for 15 years. Her bright smile and enthusiastic personality brought joy to all who knew her. Jerry and Della spent many wonderful hours fishing on Lake Minnewaska, while at their cabin, many years spent league bowling, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and working on the farm together. She and Jerry also enjoyed dancing together, and card playing with relatives and friends. They were married for almost 64 years at the time of Jerry's death in 2010. She entered the Clarkfield Care Center in November of 2011, and passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18th, at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 11 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; son, Randy; her parents; six brothers; three sisters; three brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Judy of Olivia and special friend, Norm Shubert of Danube; granddaughter, Lisa of Moscow, Idaho; grandson, Patrick and wife Sonya and sons: Elijah and Nathaniel, also of Moscow, Idaho; and numerous friends and relatives.
