Dean Arthur Shaw was born December 16, 1928, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the oldest son of John William Shaw and Vivian Ellen (Errett) Shaw with one brother, John L. (Pat) Shaw of Algona, Iowa, and sister, Vicky (Bill) Robison of Livermore, California. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. He attended four grade schools and three high schools before graduating from high school in Ida Grove, Iowa. He married Bonnie Mae Lancaster in Ida Grove, Iowa, on June 26, 1949. To this union five children were born. He worked for JC Penny Stores in Denison, Iowa, Fairmont, Minnesota, and Madison, Wisconsin. He was a toy buyer at Variety Supply in Clara City, Minnesota, salesman for Lilly Mills and Josephs Plastics in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana, Standard Oil bulk agent in Clarkfield, Minnesota, and drove transport for Western Co-op Oil, Montevideo, Minnesota. He enjoyed camping, golfing, bike riding, and attending Elderhostels. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and United Methodist Church in Montevideo, Minnesota. After 21 years with Western Co-op Oil he retired and with good friend, Al Rysdahl, spent many hours caring for the grounds and landscaping at the Montevideo Country Club. Dean passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Westwood Elderly Care in Granite Falls, Minnesota, from Alzheimers disease. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Shaw; children: Terri (Jon) Thostenson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, Scott (Trudy) Shaw of Rochester, Minnesota, Pamela Shaw of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Gail (Tim) Ruzicka of Watertown, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Eric Long, Patrick Long, Jennifer Leigh, Nicholas Shaw and Daniel Ruzicka; and four great grandchildren: Christopher Long, Samuel Long, Keegan Martin-Long and Brynn Patti Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Shaw in 1999; grandson-in-law Brent Anderson in 2005; and granddaughter, Amy Jo Long in 1975.
