David Lynn Varpness was born November 25, 1957, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Delmar and Marion (Olson) Varpness. He was baptized at the church parsonage by Pastor C. O. Bomgren in Clarkfield. He completed school in Clarkfield. David married Gail Brovold on April 21, 1979. To this union one son, Jay, was born. He married Kathy Running on November 18, 1994. David worked at Rogers Hydraulics in Granite Falls, Minnesota, until he became disabled. He enjoyed watching his son play golf. He said "Jay is another Tiger Woods." David enjoyed fishing and hunting and also woodworking. He made many nice things for his family and friends. He enjoyed visiting and joking with his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone with anything he could do. He liked to cook and was very good at it. (And he knew it.) He would tease Becky that she should learn how to make gravy. David passed away at his home north of Clarkfield on Monday morning, April 14, 2003, at the age of 45 years, 4 months, and 20 days. He is survived by his mother, Marion of Clarkfield; his son, Jay of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and his brothers: Jerry (and Mary Lou) of Newton, Kansas, and Wesley (and Becky) of Canby, Minnesota. He is also survived by sister-in-law Carol Varpness of Brookings, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Delmar in 1989; brother Duane in 1984; and one great nephew Blake Wyffels in 1989. Blessed be his memory.
