David J. Peterson September 10th, 1947 - May 21st, 2017 David J. Peterson, Clarkfield, died on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota, at the age of 69. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church with Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Stony Run Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 26. 2017, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield and for one hour before the services at the church. David J. Peterson was born on September 10, 1947, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Eldon and Betty (Kennel) Peterson. The family moved to Granite Falls where David attended school graduating from Granite Falls High School in 1966. David attended the Vo-Tech in Pipestone. He worked as a laborer in grocery stores, doing construction, and in the agricultural industry. David was married to Vickie Ellefson and they had two children: Nathan and Tad. He later met Kathy "Tonka" (Jacobson) Grinager in 1993 and they were united in marriage on April 2, 2005, at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. They made their home in Clarkfield. David enjoyed his family as well as racing, hunting, gardening and car shows. David was an active member of his church at Bergen and helped maintain the grounds at Stony Run Cemetery. David enjoyed helping where ever he was needed. David loved racing. Any night from Thursday through Sunday you could find him at one of the local tracks watching his favorite racers. He worked/volunteered his time for many years at Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo. David also enjoyed gardening. He always had plenty tomatoes and cucumbers. David also loved and enjoyed his family. He looked forward to the reunions near and far. He tried to attend all the functions for all his kids, grandkids, and other extended family. He really enjoyed car shows. Dave just loved those old cars. Another pass time for David was his "coffee groups". He could be found at the local co-op for coffee in the early mornings with the farmers and in the afternoons for a cold diet Pepsi with the non-farmers. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be truly missed by everyone. David is survived by his wife, Kathy "Tonka" Peterson; children: Nathan (Amie) Peterson of Moorhead, Tad Peterson of Dawson, Jeremy (Amanda) Grinager of Marshall, Josh (Molly) Grinager of Clarkfield; grandchildren: Maggie (Mike) Jans, Grace Grinager, Alex and Logan Grinager, Bailey Peterson, and Baby Barrett Peterson due to be born in June; great-grandchildren: Miles and Mallory Jans; his mother, Betty of Granite Falls; siblings: Duane Peterson of Watkins, Dianne (Dan) Klein of Willmar, and Denise (Brent) Severson of Niceville, FL; and other extended family and friends.
