Obituary

David Marcius Jean Johnson was born on a farm in rural Clarkfield, Minnesota, on September 10, 1927, to parents Edna (Olson) and Henry Johnson. He spent much of his youth on the family farm west of Clarkfield with his parents and siblings. David attended school in Clarkfield and earned his GED in 1978. He married Luella Pease in April of 1952. They raised their four daughters on a farm outside of Clarkfield. David spent most of his life farming and in road construction. He owned his own road construction business, maintained township roads, and worked on his farm. He was diligent in these efforts as it was common to find him with his family taking a drive to check the roads and the crops. Dave and Lu loved the southwestern U.S. so much that when it was time to retire, they spent winters in Picacho, Arizona, enjoying the climate, plants, and animals during their free-wheeling life as snowbirds. They spent many hours working on crafts together, which they shared with many friends and family members. After Lu's death in 1993, David met Jeanine Lloyd of Tucson, Arizona. The two of them spent the last ten years living in their home in Tuscan in the winter and traveling across the U.S. in their RV in the summer, visiting their many family members and friends. David continued to be active until his death, to work on his crafts, and to help out his neighbors in the care of their homes and vehicles. They shared a good life for the last ten years. David passed away on September 23, 2004, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana, at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his wife, Jeanine; and his children: Cindy (Mrs. Richard) Alness of Mound, Minnesota, Sandra (Mrs. Steve) Martin of New Paris, Indiana, Debra Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Julie (Mrs. Tim) Nelson of Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He is also survived by grandchildren: Eric, Amy, Melissa, and Andrew Alness, Angela (Alness) Koller, Timothy, Peter, Naomi, Benjamin, and Philip Werner and Leah (Werner) Miller; his siblings Mary Lou Stevens, Donna Sather, Lois Odden, Elizabeth Dack, and Henry, James, and Richard Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella May Johnson and his parents.
