David A. Helgeson was born June 29, 1944, to Palma and Cliff Helgeson at Montevideo, Minnesota. He was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. At the age of three years, he moved to Boyd, Minnesota, with his mother and twin brother. He attended Boyd School until 1957, when his mother married Jennings Agre. The family then moved to a farm West of Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd in May 1959. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1962. David lived in Madison, Wisconsin, from 1964-1976, where he was employed by Leo Meidt Distributing. In 1976 he moved back to Boyd and was married to Carleen Ellen Norman at the Watson Lutheran Church and in July of 1977, John Jens Helgeson was born. In 1981 the family purchased a farm NE of Boyd. David worked at various jobs until becoming the full-time rural letter carrier of "Rural Route One" of Boyd in 1991. He had been a member of the Dawson National Guard, and was a member of the Boyd American Legion. He was a current member of the "Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA). He was a devoted lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. He served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Scripture Reader at various times, and regularly attended Bible Study. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and he especially enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with his son, John. David died on Wednesday morning, August 11, 1999, at his rural Boyd home, with his family by his side. He was 55 years, 1 month and 14 days old. He is survived by Carleen; son John Jens; mother and step-dad, Palma and Jennings Agre of Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota; sister Connie Woodgate and husband Barry; brother-in-law Mike Lambert and wife Cindy; and nieces: Cindy, Kaye, and Vickie Lambert and Rhonda Woodgate, all of Bloomington, Minnesota. He is also survived by special aunts: Edna Fremo, Gladys Helgeson, Karen Schultz, Helen Meyer, and Margaret Bratland. David was preceded in death by his twin brother, John Lee in 1961; his father Cliff in 1962; and his sister Sharon Lambert in 1993. Blessed be his memory among us.
