Obituary

Daniel Oscar Brown, son of Charles and Eunice Brown was born in Hanley Falls, Minnesota, on May 19, 1888. He attended school in the Hanley Falls community and later spent two years at Hamline University in St. Paul. January 18, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Stevens. To this union two daughters were born, one who passed away in infancy and Lois, now Mrs. Harvey Vang of Litchfield, Minnesota. Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Brown engaged in farming on a farm four miles north of Hanley Falls. A few years later they moved to the farm just north of Hanley Falls where they have since made their home. In 1934 when the government started its farm program, Mr. Brown was chosen to serve on the County Committee and he has continued to serve in that capacity until his death. During these 22 years he learned to know almost every farmer in Yellow Medicine County. He was very devoted to his work and enjoyed the associations made through the office. Even in the last years when his health was failing, he felt it his duty to be on the job. Dan also served faithfully on the School Board of Hanley Falls for thirty years. He was a member of Florence Lodge No. 216 A.F. & A.M.; Montevideo Chapter No. 96 Royal Arch Masons, and Marshall Commandery No. 28 of Knights Templar. He became very ill on Monday afternoon, August 20th and passed away quietly the following morning, August 21, at the Clarkfield Memorial Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 68 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Ida Brown; his daughter, Lois; four grandchildren: Dee Ann, Nancy, Bruce and Maria Vang; one sister, Edna (Mrs. Grant Brakke) of Veblen, South Dakota; and three brothers, namely, Ben of Olivia, Minnesota, Reid of Big Fork, Minnesota, and Roy of Fairborn, Ohio. He also leaves a foster sister, Mrs. Ella Davis of McAllen, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, four brothers and a baby daughter. Dan will be sadly missed by his family and a host of friends. His devotion to his family, his sincerity and honesty were above reproach. IN MEMORY OF DANIEL O.
