Obituary

Dagmar Adelia Akre was born December 21, 1916, to parents Dr. Malvin M. Hauge and Anna Schjelderup Hauge in Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was baptized on March 7, 1917, at the Clarkfield Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. O. T. Storaasli and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1931 by the Rev. J. E. H. Akre. Dagmar graduated from the Clarkfield High School in 1934 and attended the University of Minnesota where she majored in Speech Therapy, graduating in 1939. She taught in the St. Cloud School system for two years. On August 17, 1941, she and Dr. Osmund Akre were united in marriage in the Clarkfield Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. J. E. H. Akre. They left immediately for Fort Ord, Washington. She returned to Clarkfield when Osmund was called to serve overseas and waited out the war years working in the local hospital with her brother, Dr. M. I. Hauge. After World War Two, they lived in Chicago where she continued her education receiving her Master's Degree in Speech Therapy at Northwestern University. She worked with the speech problems of disadvantaged children in the Chicago school system for twenty years. In 1983, they moved to the Mercer, Wisconsin area where they lived until her unexpected death. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Dr. Osmund Akre; her sons Dr. Steven Akre, his wife Barbara and children Erik and Karen of Duluth, Minnesota, and James Akre, his wife Susan and children Ethan and Erin of Reedsport, Oregon; her sister-in Law, Evalyn Hauge of Clarkfield; her sisters Cecilia Hauge of Edina, Minnesota, and Bergliot Stueland of Clarkfield, Minnesota; her brothers Waldemar Hauge and wife Elsie of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Dr. Erling Hauge and wife Emiline of Sun City West, Arizona; four sisters of husband Osmund and their families; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Malvin M. and Anna Schjelderup Hauge and her brother, Dr. Malvin I. Hauge.
