IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Curtis Irving
Wilson
November 29, 1918 – April 25, 2007
Curtis Irving Wilson (November 29, 1918 - April 25, 2007) Curtis Irving Wilson was born on November 29, 1918, at home to parents Herbert and Maye (Brekke) Wilson in Hazel Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1936. He attended the University of Minnesota in the fall of 1936 and played on the freshman football team. On February 13, 1942, he married Helen Olson of Hanley Falls in Fort Worth, Texas. Three children were born to this marriage. They had an interesting courtship in that Curtis would occasionally pick Helen up for a date after landing his Taylorcraft airplane in a nearby pasture along old Highway 23. During WWII, Curtis was a flight instructor at Hicks Field in Fort Worth, Texas, and later flew as a pilot for American Airlines. He returned to farm near Hazel Run in 1950 where he remained actively engaged in farming until his retirement in 2004. He was an early proponent of no-till farming. Helen, his wife of 61 years, passed away in 2003. Curtis was very much involved in his local church and community activities. He was a 20 year member of the Clarkfield School Board, a member of Toastmasters Club and Farm Bureau. He served as county chairman for the Republican Party for many years and ran for the legislature in 1960 and 1962. As member of Hazel Run Lutheran Church, he served in many capacities which included teaching the High School Sunday School class. In later years he attended the adult Bible Study Class and served at the yearly Men's Supper. In his 50's he learned to play golf and played with the Clarkfield League for many years. He was an active member of the EAA and built and flew two experimental airplanes. He and his wife were avid square dancers and were members of several groups over the years. He loved the warm weather of the southwest and made over 30 trips to Arizona and California. They also made trips to visit their children and families every year without fail. Curtis passed away on April 25, 2007.
