IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cleo A.
Thomton
June 21, 1913 – June 21, 1913
Cleo A. Thomton and her twin sister, Pheme, were born to Elvin and Josephine (Olson) Thomton at Clarkfield, Minnesota, on June 21, 1913. She was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Cleo attended public school until she was 16 years old. Her father became ill and Cleo quit school to help care for her father and his medical expenses. She worked in the laundry at the Montevideo Hospital. Even though the days were hot and the job difficult, she never complained. Pheme said that Cleo never complained at the sacrifice she had to make. Throughout life Cleo remained a very quiet and shy person. Pheme always referred to her as the "good twin". Cleo loved to help her mother with house chores, yard work and shopping. She walked or took busses all over Minneapolis. She looked forward to the State Fair and other celebrations. Making crochet items, doing difficult crossword puzzles and word search were challenges she enjoyed. Her biggest passion was Biblical history. She was a faithful member of Minnehaha Lutheran Church in Minneapolis until she returned to Clarkfield and transferred her membership back to Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She loved playing her piano and singing hymns for her own enjoyment. Content with a simple life, she willingly quit her job to care for her mother following her stroke, until Josie passed away. Then she returned to work at the Walker Methodist Homes in the laundry department until she retired. Following an accident she returned to her home and lived with the assistance of a care taker and her nephew, Earl Westre. Declining health necessitated her entering Nicollet Good Samaritan. When it closed in May of 2000 she chose to move to the Clarkfield Care Center, where she enjoyed improved health due to the excellent caring staff. Cleo prayed to go and be with her parents and Pheme. On June 8, 2007, her prayer was answered. Cleo passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 93 years.
