Clarence Gunnar Widmark, 91, of Boyd, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 30, 1984, at the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota. Services were held Saturday, June 2, 1984, 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd with Pastor Scott Jorgenson officiating. Final Resting Place is the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Boyd, Minnesota. He was born March 22, 1893, to John and Selma (Frisk) Widmark in Skaokatan Township, rural Ivanhoe, Minnesota. He was confirmed and baptized in the Lake Benton Lutheran Church. He attended Ivanhoe Public Schools, where he graduated and he continued his education in teachers training at Mankato. He then taught for three years. In 1918 he joined the U.S. Navy and served overseas at the end of World War I. He returned to Lake Benton and worked in the Telephone and Hatchery businesses. Later he moved to Boyd, where he operated the Gambles Hardware Store. He married Alma Olson in Milbank, South Dakota, on March 4, 1934. Recently Clarence and Alma resided at the Madison Lutheran Home. While living in Boyd, he was active in local politics, the Boyd Sportsmen Club and the Boyd American Legion Post 198. He was a charter member of the Bellingham Legion Post 441 and in 1973 received the "Outstanding Senior Citizen Award for Lac qui Parle County." He is survived by wife Alma and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a sister. At the funeral, Vernon Stevens was the organist with Scott Jorgenson and Merrill Widmark singing. Casket Bearers were Alden Dorn, Robert Engen, Lawrence Goetsch, Leonard Grube, Arlan Nelson and Harvey Widmark. Military Rites were by the Boyd American Legion Post 198.
