Obituary

Raymond C. (Hoover) Johnson, 103, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota. Funeral services were Friday, March 6, 1998, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield with Pastor Terry Hagenson officiating. Organist was Kathy Dufrane. Casketbearers were Clinton Christenson, Vernon Christenson, Donald Falkum, George Lehnertz, Charles Vane and Russell Vane. Military rites were by J. Ben Johnson Post 169 of Clarkfield. Burial was in the Clarkfield City Cemetery. Clarence Raymond Russell (Hoover) Johnson was born January 7, 1895, on a farm in Goodhue County to Peter Albert and Johanna Christine (Carlson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Hoover married Agnes Nordstrom in 1936. They were married about 24 years when Agnes died. Several years later, he married Evelyn Granell. Hoover served in the United States Navy from April 1918 to December 1919. He served on the USS Illinois, USS Carola, and the USS Nenette. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church of Clarkfield, the J. Ben Johnson Post 169, and a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center. Hoover is survived by a sister, Myrtle Bechtle of Montevideo, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Agnes, and six sisters.
