IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clarence Wilford
Rodness
February 18, 1905 – April 1, 1948
Clarence Wilford Rodness was born on February 18, 1905, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was the only son born to Peter Oscar and Anna (Olson) Rodness. In 1918 a foster child, Verner Rodness, came to live in the home with the family. Clarence was baptized in Fridhem Church and confirmed in the local Augustana Church. His father passed away in April, 1948, while his mother, aged 90 currently lives in the Clarkfield Care Center. He grew up on his parents farm in Tyro Township, attended the rural school there, and was graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1924. He continued to assist his parents on their farm and also entered into the road maintenance and contracting business on completing his education. In 1934, he was united in marriage to Irene Lila Christensen. To this union were born two children: Avis, who married Kevin Tait of Cresskill, New Jersey, and who now resides in Lexington, Massachusetts, and Roger who lives in West St. Paul. Clarence had three grandsons to whom he was known as "Grandy." Their visits with him were always the high point of the year for them. Except for the first year of their marriage, Clarence and Irene spent their life together in their home in southwest Clarkfield. Throughout these years, he diligently fulfilled his responsibilities to the county, townships, and individuals for whom he worked. On the eve of his death, March 28, 1969, he was working at this task, when he suddenly passed away at the age of 64 years. He was an active member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board for many years. He was a member of the Village Council. In addition to the family named, he is survived by three aunts: Mrs. Reka Roedl of Clarkfield, Mrs. Robert Devereaux of Wadena, Minnesota, and an aunt and uncle, the Seth Rodnesses of California.
