Clarence Bernard Hoiland was born on July 10, 1904, in Normania Township, Rural Hanley Falls, to Alfred and Martha Hoiland. On June 23, 1928, he married Elva Hanson. To this union four children were born, Marilyn, Bud, Shirley, and Carol. Clarence worked for Yellow Medicine County doing road maintenance until he retired. He was an active member of the Assembly of God Church, serving in such capacities as deacon, treasurer, and custodian. In 1987 Clarence was honored as the Clarkfield citizen of the year. Clarence, 88, died on Saturday, November 14, 1992, at the Chippewa County Hospital in Montevideo. He is survived by his wife, Elva of Clarkfield, and their four children: Marilyn Zumwalt of Santa Ana, California, C.E. (Bud) Hoiland of Richfield, Minnesota, Shirley Mau of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Carol Daniel of Atlanta, Georgia; six grandchildren; two sisters, Clenora Dahl and Muriel Vinnece; and one brother, Merton Hoiland.
