Clarence Olson was born on a farm near Hazel Run, Minnesota, June 28, 1897, the son of Halvor Olson Foss and Karen (Hoff) Foss. He spent his boyhood on the farm and received his education in the Hazel Run School. Clarence was a veteran of World War I. On May 6, 1922, he was united in marriage to Laura Winson of Clarkfield, Minnesota. To this union three children were born. They are Lorraine (Mrs. Donald Wilson) of Hazel Run, Leo of Clarkfield and Joann of Hazel Run. Mr. Olson worked as a mechanic for several years and also operated a garage in Hazel Run. At present he was the owner of the Olson Implement Company. Although he had been in poor health for several years, he apparently made a good recovery from recent surgery and was very happy about it. The Hazel Run community was deeply shocked and saddened last Friday July 16, 1954, afternoon when it was learned that Clarence had passed away at the Clarkfield Community Memorial Hospital following several heart attacks. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Inga, Emma and Elma; and a brother, Ole. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Laura; three children; six grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. William Tollefson of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Mrs. Gina Anderson of Minneapolis; two brothers: Henry of Hazel Run and Alfred of Boyd, Minnesota. In addition there are a host of other relatives and friends. "Lefty" Olson, as he was known in the Hazel Run community, will be sadly missed by everyone. Although he walked so quietly among us, he gladly rendered service at all times. He served as a member of the council and was interested in all community affairs. "Lefty" has claimed the Hills of Morning and entered God's Blessed Land of Peace. Blessed be his memory.
