Clara Rolstad was born May 3, 1891, to parents John and Christina (Vien) Kise of Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. On November 9, 1916, she was married to Harvey Rolstad of Normania Township. They lived the first six months of their married life in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While her husband worked as a mechanic she went to millinery and dressmaking school. Then the couple took over their farm four miles east and two miles south of Clarkfield. Three children were born to them, namely: Hazel (Mrs. J. Arnold Johnson) of Excelsior, Minnesota, James of Santa Anna, California, and Violet (Mrs. Donald Hanson) of Torrance, California. Clara was well known in the community for her dressmaking ability, as an expert lefse baker and wonderful cook. Clara and Harvey celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in November, 1966, with all their children and many friends present. They spent two more years of wedded life together before her husband passed away in March, 1968. Clara, a native of Normania Township and a lifelong resident of the area, passed away at Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis, after a two and one-half month stay there. She fell and broke her hip the 20th of February and was taken to Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis for surgery and never recovered from her injuries. She passed away May 7, 1973, at the age of 82 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Harvey, and six brothers, Peter, Alex, Eli, Louie, Isaac, and Lynn. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and her brother, Norman, who has lived with her since 1968 at the Rolstad farm. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
