Clara Amanda
(Halvorson) Benson
January 7, 1889 – April 5, 1959
Mrs. Clara Benson was the oldest in a family of twelve children of Jacob and Anna Halvorson. She was born January 7, 1889, and raised on a farm near Clarkfield, Minnesota, confirmed and baptized in the Bergen Lutheran Church of Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. On February 12, 1912, she was united in marriage to Axel Benson and the couple farmed in this community all but a few years when they resided in St. Paul and a few years at Echo, Minnesota. The majority of her years were spent on the Halvorson farm two and one-half miles east and one mile north of Clarkfield, until March, 1941, when she moved to St. Paul. The couple was blessed with one son, Herman, with whom Mrs. Benson had been residing in St. Paul. Herman and his wife have two children, Kenneth Jerome, age 13, and Karen Marie, age 4. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, namely, Helmer of Clarkfield, Henry of Conde, South Dakota, Nellie (Mrs. Norman Hagen) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Alice (Mrs. Harry Talley) of Glendale, California, Mrs. Camilla Lucchessi of St. Paul, and Theressa (Mrs. Theo Hanson) of Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husband, Axel, on January 7, 1941; her parents and the following brothers: Andrew in WWI, James, Clarence, Johnny and Selmer who died April 5, 1959.
